Albany rejected the Ijma - Proofs and Refutations

⚠️ Al-Albani’s Rejection of Ijma’ With Direct Citations

📌 Evidence 1: Al-Albani’s Statement That There Is No Real Ijma’
🔹 Al-Albani stated:
📝 "There is no real Ijma’ after the time of the Sahabah."
📖 (Silsilat al-Huda wal-Nur, Tape 757)

✅ Refutation:
🔸 This is false because:
📖 Allah says in the Qur’an:
وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصْلِهِۦ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَسَآءَتْ مَصِيرًۭا
📝 "Whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has been made clear to him and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will leave him to what he has chosen and burn him in Hell – what an evil destination!" (Surah An-Nisa 4:115)

🔸 Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H) stated:
📝 "Whoever opposes Ijma’ has deviated from the path of the believers."
📖 (Majmu’ al-Fatawa, 19/271)

📌 Evidence 2: Al-Albani’s Dismissal of the Ijma’ on the Definition of Iman
🔹 Al-Albani said:
📝 "Ijma’ on the definition of Iman carries no weight."
📖 (Tamaam al-Minnah, p. 39)

✅ Refutation:
🔸 This contradicts the agreed-upon definition of Iman by the Salaf:
📖 Imam Al-Bukhari (d. 256H) wrote:
📝 "Iman is belief, speech, and action; it increases and decreases."
📖 (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Iman)

🔸 Imam Al-Awza’i (d. 157H) said:
❝ كان من مضى من السلف لا يفرقون بين الإيمان والعمل ❞
📝 "The Salaf never separated Iman from actions."
📖 (Sharh Usul I'tiqad Ahlus Sunnah, Al-Lalaka'i, 5/887)

🔸 Al-Albani’s statement is dangerous because:

  • It aligns with the Murji’ah sect who separate Iman from deeds.

  • It rejects a well-established scholarly consensus (Ijma’).

📌 Evidence 3: Al-Albani’s Disregard for Ijma’ in Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence)
🔹 Al-Albani wrote:
📝 "If a hadith contradicts Ijma’, the hadith should be preferred—even if it is not definite in authenticity."
📖 (Silsilat al-Ahadith as-Saheehah, Vol. 1, p. 280)

✅ Refutation:
🔸 This is incorrect because:
📖 Imam Ash-Shafi’i (d. 204H) said:
❝ إذا انعقد الإجماع فهو حجة لا يجوز مخالفته ❞
📝 "If Ijma’ is established, it is binding, and it is not permissible to oppose it."
📖 (Ar-Risalah, p. 553)

🔸 Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (d. 241H) said:
❝ من رد الإجماع فقد كفر ❞
📝 "Whoever rejects Ijma’ has committed disbelief."
📖 (Tabaqat al-Hanabilah, 1/32)

🔸 Rejecting Ijma’ in Fiqh leads to:

  • Personal opinions overriding Islamic law.

  • Disregard for centuries of scholarly efforts.

  • Opening doors to misinterpretation and sectarianism.

📌 Conclusion of This Section:

✅ Al-Albani repeatedly rejected Ijma’, contradicting the Qur’an, Hadith, and the unanimous agreement of scholars.
✅ Major scholars have explicitly stated that rejecting Ijma’ leads to deviation and even disbelief.
✅ This rejection of Ijma’ allowed him to hold many isolated, extreme views that contradict mainstream Islam.
